A former Au-Cu-Ag-Pb-Zn mine located in sec. 24, T16S, R38E, MDM, 1.5 km (0.9 mile) S of Cerro Gordo (townsite) and 1.8 km (1.1 miles) E of the Estelle Mine (4,600 feet S of the Cerro Gordo shaft). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in Late Devonian limestone. The ore body strikes N30W and dips 70W at a thickness of 3.05 meters and a length of 21.34 meters. The ore bodies occur in limestone and marble from the Cerro Gordo Formation. The formation has a thickness of 1,500 feet, outcrops continuously from the Cerro Gordo Mine to a point S of the Morning Star workings, where the White Pine shale Formation of Mississippian age overlies it. Gold ore bodies are found along bedding in the limestone, strike N50W and dip 45SW. The vein filling is iron. The Pb-Zn ore bodies were iron-stained siliceous ore carrying values in Ag. Local rocks include Carboniferous marine rocks, unit 3 (SE California Clastic Assemblage).
Workings include underground openings with a length of 1,950.72 meters. Two tunnels with the upper tunnel at an elevation of 7,972 feet, was driven E 1,530 feet. The lower tunnel, at an elevation of 7,754 feet, was driven E 930 feet. The two tunnels connected by a winze with sub-levels. The stope is 70 feet in length and the thickness varies from 3 to 10 feet.
Production data are found in: Tucker, W. Burling & Reid J. Sampson (1938): 439.
6,000 tons of ore were reportedly mined with a gross value of $150,000 (period values). Gold ore assayed 0.8 ounces/ton Au, 30.67 ounceston Ag, 5.55% Pb and 25.7% Fe.
