A Au-Ag-Mn prospect located in secs. 14, 15, 20 & 21, T23S, R43E, MDM, in the Slate Range (11.1 road miles NE of Trona). Discovered in 1937. Owned by F.W. Chappelle (1974) and L.B. Crow (1974). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is a Mn deposit. The ore body strikes N70W and dips 33N at a thickness of 1.6 meters. The ore body is a shear zone of hydrothermal origin. Primary Ore Control was faulting. The manganese minerals are psilomelane and pyrolusite in a matrix of jasper, quartz and iron (??). The Mn ore is in a series of metamorphosed sedimentary rocks lying on the hanging wall of an intrusive granite. The Mn occurs in a gossan zone in irregular areas, mostly at the footwall of the limestone. The gossan includes Mn & Fe oxides, brown jasper and quartz vein material, and some sulphur and gypsum. Much of the Mn is in the form of crusts and stains. Microscopic studies in 1918 show that Mn oxides were derived from gedrite and garnet rock. Local rocks include Precambrian rocks, undivided, unit 1 (Death Valley) and/or Quaternary alluvium and marine deposits.
Workings include surface and underground openings.
Analytical data results: The ore grade was estimated at 20 to 30% Mn.
