A former Cu-Ag-Pb-Au mine located in sec. 16, T15S, R41E, MDM, 1.0 km (0.6 mile) SW of Ulida Flat (coordinates of record) (on the SW portion of the flat), on National Park Service wilderness land (Death Valley National Park/Death Valley Wilderness). Operated in 1912 & during the period 1927-1930. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.

Butte Group--six claims midway between the Racetrack and Dodd Spring. Assessment work only. Owned by R.C. Spear, E.L. Spear, and Hunter of Lone Pine. Eakle et al., Mines and Mineral Resources p. 67.Greene, 1981

Mineralization is an oxidized deposit. Local rocks include Quaternary alluvium and marine deposits.

Workings include underground openings with a length of 228.6 meters and an overall depth of 45.72 meters and comprised of a 600 foot adit and a 150 foot deep shaft.

Production data are found in: Goodwin, Joseph Grant (1957).

Assay data results: ^24% Cu, $10/ton Ag & Au (period values). Ore shipped between 1927-1930 showed smelter return of 56% Pb, 15 ounces Ag, 0.0135 ounces Au plus some Cu per ton. Separate shipment in 1930 showed 19% Cu, 4.77 ounces Ag and 0.1175 ounce Au/ton.
