A former Au-Pb-Zn-Ag mine located in sec. 14 &/or 16, T15S, R37E, MDM, 2.5 km (1.6 miles) SE of New York Butte (coordinates of record), on Bureau of Land Management wilderness land (Inyo Mountains Wilderness) (located claim). Property consisted of 19 claims. Owned by Robbye Smith and others (100%), California (1985). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in limestone. The ore body strikes N30W and dips 60SW, at a thickness of 0.61 meter. The deposit is comprised of a series of parallel veins in limestone. One of these occurs on the contact. The thickness is from 1 to 2 feet. Dikes of diorite porphyry occur in the vicinity of the mine. North of the shaft, crushed specimens of ammonites occur in limestone. Associated rocks include the Late Triassic diorite. Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 3 (Mojave Desert, Death Valley area, and Eastern Sierra Nevada).
Workings include underground openings comprised of a 200 foot incline. West of the incline 2 shafts were sunk, each 60 feet deep. A crosscut adit 700 feet long was driven on the E slope of the ridge.
Analytical data results: The ore assayed at $20-$40/ton (period values) of Au.
