A former placer Au occurrence/prospect/drift mine/dragline dredge operation located in asec. 11, T9N, R8E, MDM, 1.3 km (0.8 mile) SW of Clarksville, along Carson Creek, S of US highway 50. Last operated during the period 1925 to 1926. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
The dredged area is probably in the E½SE¼, shown on USGS quadrangle Clarksville, California (1953). Probably claims shown as Jumbo o. 1 to No. 4, owned by the White Rock Land, Mine, and Dredge Company. 80 acres are listed on page 429 (Logan (1926)). The topo map shows tailings in the SE¼ of the section.
Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include surface and underground openings/operations. The area was worked in the past by both drift and surface miners, but is said to be spotty in Au content. Water sufficient for washing is available only about 3 months of the year, during the rainy season.
