A former lode Au occurrence/mine located in the SW¼SE¼ sec. 23, T11N, R11E, MDM, 3.9 km (2.5 miles) ESE of Mosquito Camp, along Redbird Canyon, N of the South Fork American River (6 miles W of Pollock Pines), on National Forest land. Operated by Kate E. Hennesey. Operated in 1938. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in granodiorite. The ore body is 0.91 meter thick. The quartz vein is 1½ to 3 feet thick, averaging 2. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
Workings include underground openings comprised of a 65 foot inclined shaft. A 2-ton Gibson mill was installed.
Production data are found in: Clark, Wm. B. & D.W. Carlson (1956).
A small amount of Au was produced in 1938 and had grades which ran up to $65 (period values) per ton of Au.
