A former placer Au occurrence/drift & hydraulic mines located in secs. 8, 9, 10, 15, 22 & 34, T13N, R11E, MDM, 0.5 km (0.3 mile) W of Kentucky Flat (coordinates of record) and about 4.3 km ESE of Volcanoville (on the western side of the flat), on National Forest land. Worked over an area comprising 1,955 acres. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters. Operated various mines until about 1908.
Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada) and/or Tertiary pyroclastic and volcanic mudflow deposits, unit 9 (Cascade Range).
