A former lode Au mine located in secs. 6 & 7, T10N, R11E, MDM, about 1.65 km N of Placerville (in the skirt of the city), along the S end of Big Canyon, on private land. Operated in the 1880's and 1890's. Prospected on the Old Harmon claim. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters. This mine was one of a number of operations of the Placerville Gold Mining Co. in the 1950's.
Mineralization is a vein deposit on the Mother Lode hosted in greenstone and slate. There are 2 veins. The E vein has a greenstone hanging wall and averages 4 feet thick. The W vein is 15 feet thick. Six ore shoots are known. Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains) and/or Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include underground openings comprised of a 1,400 foot S drift adit and a 560 foot shaft on the Old Harmon claim.
