A former lode Au occurrence/mine located in the W½SE¼ sec. 24, T11N, R10E, MDM, 1.6 km (1.0 miles) SE of Kelsey, along Texas Canyon (3½ miles ESE of Coloma), on private land. The claim comprises 20.63 acres. Operated by John Fitzgerald. Operated around 1896. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in slate, on the Mother Lode. The ore body strikes N and dips E. There are 3 parallel veins at 9, 15 & 30 feet thick, respectively in slate with associated talc and calcite. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include underground openings comprised of a 320 foot crosscut adit and several shallow shafts. A 10-stamp mill was erected.
