A former lode Au occurrence/mine located in the N½ (estimated) sec. 17, T11N, R10E, MDM, 1.1 km (0.7 mile) N of Coloma, S of Little Gambler Creek & WNW of Murphy Mountain, E of the South Fork American River, on private land. Operated by John Fitzgerald. Operated around 1894. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters. Clark & Carlson (1956) show the location as being in sec. 24, but USGS quadrangle Coloma, California (1950) shows it in the SW¼ sec. 17.
Mineralization is a vein/seam deposit. Seams are 2 to 12 inches thick near the contact of granite with slate. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
Workings include underground openings comprised of a 230 foot adit.
