A stone (dimension) deposit located near the N¼ (sic) sec. 29, T10N, R12E, MDM, 1.2 km (0.7 mile) NW of Pleasant Valley, SSE of Avinsino Corner (1 mile S of Newtown), on private land. Operated by Sierra Placerite (A. E. Nicolazzi, President). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
Workings include surface openings comprised of a quarry 100 feet long, 50 feet wide and 15 to 20 feet deep, plus a plant.
Ornamental building stone is marketed under the trade name of "Sierra Placerite." It is sawed from the quarry, split into slabs and blocks. Some is fired in kilns. The operation started in 1947 and was purchased by the present operator in 1954. It was still in operation and production in 1956. Most of the finished product of the past few years (circa 1956) has been used in fireplaces and building fronts in the San Francisco Bay Area. The rate of production was as high as 100 tons of finished stone per month.
