A former lode Au occurrence/mine located in sec. 12, T10N, R11E, MDM, 0.7 km (0.5 mile) SSE of Five Mile Terrace (6 miles E of Placerville). Discovered in 1870. Opened about 1870 and operated again in 1890. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in granite and slate. The ore body strikes NW and dip NE. The vein is 12 feet thick with a granite footwall and a slate hanging wall. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
Workings include underground openings comprised of a 54 foot shaft and 2 adits at 110 feet and 108 feet, respectively. A 10-stamp mill was erected.
Production data are found in: Clark, Wm. B. & D.W. Carlson (1956).
A small amount of Au was produced in 1890.
