A talc-soapstone occurrence/mine located in the SE¼ sec. 35, T9N, R9E, MDM, 1.7 km (1.1 miles) WNW of Brandon Corner, just W of the Southern Pacific Railroad tracks, W of Little Indian Creek, and N of Sugarloaf (3 miles NE of Latrobe), on private land. Operated by the Pacific Minerals Co., Ltd. Operated originally prior to 1920. Active during the early 1920's. Workings caved around 1924 and the mine was closed. It was reopened in 1928 and has been operated continuously since. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include surface and underground openings. Originally worked as an underground mine, now an open pit operation. The main pit is 175 feet long, 35 to 70 feet wide and 75 feet high at the face (North end). There are also 2 smaller pits.
Until recently (timeframe not stated) the operation was seasonal, March through September, but now it is a year-around operation. May be the mine shown near the Shrub siding in the NW¼SE¼ of the section .
The mined material was used for insecticides.
