A former placer Au occurrence/dredge mine located in sec. 23, T13N, R9E, MDM, 2.6 km (1.6 mile) NNW of French Hill, at Cherokee Bar along the Middle Fork American River, NW of Cherokee Flat, on private land. Operated by the Mead Co. Operated in 1949. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters. Deposit continues across the river into Placer County.
Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains) and/or Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include dragline dredge operations.
