A Au occurrence/group of claims located in the SE¼NW¼ sec. 17, T12N, R17E, MDM, 4.7 km (2.9 miles) W of Fallen Leaf (town), on the divide between Susie Lake and Gilmore Lake, on wilderness land administered by the U.S. Forest Service (Desolation Wilderness). The property is comprised of 3 claims. Owned by H. W. Hawkin (1932-1938). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters. Occurs mostly on a N-trending ridge between 8,000 and 8,200 feet of altitude.
The greater part of the mineralized zone is within a semi-rectangular are about 500 feet long and 150 feet wide, trending N45W, across the crest of the ridge. Sulfide-bearing material is recognized for more than 1,300 feet NW and 150 feet SE. Gold is present in most of many samples taken. The richest samples analyzed about $10.00 (period values) per ton. From surface exposures the deposit is too low in grade, the Au is too erratically distributed, and the area access is too difficult for commercial exploitation at present but is near enough to warrant exploitation to determine the character and dimensions of the deposit beneath the surface. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 5 (Northern Sierra Nevada and Eastern Klamath Mountains).
