A former lode Au occurrence/mine located in the SW¼SW¼ sec. 31, T11N, R11E, MDM, about 2.6 km N of Placerville, S of the confluence of White Rock Creek with the South Fork American River (1 mile N of the Union School). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
NOTE: USGS MRDS database file #10030265 states that there is no evidence of gold; however, MRDS file #10007093 states that this mine was a past producer.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted ion rocks of the Mariposa Formation. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains) and/or Tertiary pyroclastic and volcanic mudflow deposits, unit 9 (Cascade Range).
