A former lode Au mine located in the SW¼ sec. 30 and in the NW¼NE¼ sec. 31, T10N, R11E, MDM, 1.6 km (1.0 mile) SE of Diamond Springs and about 4 km E of El Dorado, N of Martinez Creek, on private land. Claims include the Griffith and Bryant, which is 2,999 feet long and 600 feet wide, plus several other quartz claims, giving a total length of about 4,500 feet along the course of the Mother Lode. Operated by Frank B. Richards. Operated originally in the 1850's and during the periods 1888 to 1890 and 1896 and 1903. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in slate. The ore body strikes NE and dips SE at a thickness of 3.66 meters. The vein is 5 to 12 feet thick and runs with the schistosity of the slate. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include underground openings comprised of shafts 700 feet, 150 feet and 253 feet deep plus drifts. A 5-stamp mill was erected. Prospected 500 feet along the vein.
The ore yielded from $4.25 to $8.00 (period values) per ton. It yielded as much as $65 (period values) per ton in a few areas.
