A former lode Au occurrence/mine located near the center S½ sec. 5, T8N, R12E, MDM, 2.4 km (1.5 miles) NNE of Coyoteville, S of the South Fork Spanish Creek, on the lower N slope of Coyote Ridge (2 miles SW of Fair Play), on private land. Operated by Jean E. Carlson. Operated during the periods 1915 to 1918 and 1933 to 1934. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in granodiorite. The ore body strikes W and dips 80S at a thickness of 0.76 meters. Narrow gouge occurs on both vein walls. The vein is 18 to 30 inches (45 to 75 cm) thick. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
Workings include underground openings with a length of 685.8 meters and an overall depth of 152.4 meters and comprised of a 500 foot inclined shaft, considerable drifting on the 90 foot level and on the 225, 350 & 450 feet. Adit with drifts is called the 90 foot level. A 45 ton mill with 10 stamps, plates and a Frue Vanner were installed.
