A former Au-asbestos mine located in the NW¼NE¼ sec. 36, T13N, R9E, MDM, 0.4 km (0.2 mile) SE of French Hill (coordinates of record) (on the SE slope of the hill), about 6 miles N of Greenwood (1 mile SW of Spanish Dry Diggings), on private land. Property holdings were 160 acres. Operated by Harriett Taylor. Operated circa 1894. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.
Mineralization is a Au-asbestos vein-seam deposit. The ore body strikes NW and dips 45E with a thickness of 0.46 meters (1.5 feet). The deposit is on a porphyry seam belt. Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include surface and underground openings with a length of 60.96 meters and an overall depth of 30.48 meters. Mined by open cuts, a 100 foot shaft and a 100 foot adit. Material treated in an 800 foot sluice and 10-stamp mill.
No production records were found.
Deposit was prospected for asbestos but no record of its output was found.
