A former placer Au occurrence/drift & hydraulic mine located in secs. 18 & 19, T10N, R11E, MDM, 0.7 km (0.4 mile) SSW of Coon Hollow (coordinates of record). Discovered in 1852. Claim contains 70 acres. Drifted from 1852 to 1861 and hydraulicked from 1861 to 1871. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters. The Coon Hollow claim is shown in the SW¼ sec. 18 in Logan (1938).
Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
Au output from this area totaled $10,000,000 (period values). The gravel yielded about $1 (period values) per cubic yard. The accumulated tailings were subsequently being mined for aggregate.
