A former placer Au occurrence/hydraulic & drift mine located in the S½NW¼ sec. 12, T13N, R10E, MDM, 2.0 km (1.2 miles) WNW of Volcanoville, NE of Buckeye Point (summit), S of the Middle Fork American River, on private land. The property was comprised of 32 acres. Operated by W. E. Colby. Operated in the 1890's and early 1930's. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.
Page 270 of Logan (1938) shows location in secs. 7 & 8, T12N, R10E and in secs. 17 & 18, T13N, R10E, with a northerly extension claim of 20 acres. References are the same as for this location and apparently the description was incorrect.
Location may be the mine shown as indicated on USGS quadrangle Georgetown, California, topo map (1950).
Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include underground openings comprised of a 400 foot bedrock adit in conjunction with drifting operations and surface hydraulicking operations.
The gravel yielded $1.33 (period values) of Au/ton.
