A former placer Au occurrence/drift mine located in the NW¼ sec. 29, T10N, R12E, MDM, 1.2 km (0.8 mile) S of Newtown, at Avincino Corner, on private land. Operated by Alida L. Avansino. Operated during the period 1930 to 1931 and in 1936. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters. This mine adjoins the Hinds Mine and included the western part of the original Hinds location and a lease on other land, for a total of 153 acres.
Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
Workings include underground openings comprised of a 50 foot shaft with drifts 100 feet W, 280 feet N and 127 feet E. Two 10-stamp mills were erected.
A report in July, 1930, documented an average recovery of $3.23 (period values) per ton of Au. A later operator reported a yield of up to $5 (period values) per cubic yard of gravel. Altogether, several thousand dollars of Au were produced.
