A former W-Au mine located in the NE¼SE¼ sec. 4, T11N, R11E, MDM, 5.3 km (3.3 miles) E of Spanish Flat, on the western ridge of Rock Creek (7 miles NE of Placerville), on private land. Discovered in 1930. Operated by the Ajax Consolidated Mines Company C/O Bruce Thompson. Operated during the period 1931 to 1932 and again in 1943. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters. This property has been the source of the total recorded output of W in the county. Small amounts of Au are present in the vein material.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in schist and phyllite. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
Workings include underground openings comprised of a 187 foot adit. 50 feet above and below this adit an 80 foot and a 240 foot adit, respectively, were driven.
Production data are found in: Clark and Carlson (1956).
Between $3,000 and $4,000 (period values) worth of scheelite ore was produced (1931-1932). The property was worked again in 1943 and some scheelite was produced. The more recent owner had prospected the property.
