A former diatomite-silica deposit/mine located in the NE¼ sec. 11, T17S, R9E, SBM, 8.9 km (5.5 miles) NE of Boulder Park (3 miles SE of Ocotillo; just outside of the Jacumba Wilderness Study Area), on Bureau of Land Management administered land. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters. First claimed in 1941.
Mineralization is a diatomite deposit (Deposit model: 222: Lacustrine diatomite), hosted in Holocene lake sediments and volcanic ash. The ore body is 0.3 meter thick atb a width of 18.29 meters and a length of 60.96 meters. Diatomite beds rest on older alluvium, including fanglomerate and montmorillonite clay, and overlain by unconsolidated sand. The diatomite beds are up to 12 feet thick and flat-lying and exposed in 2 erosional remnants. The northern exposure is 150 feet long and up to 60 feet wide. The southern exposure is 200 feet long and up to 50 feet wide. Local rocks include Tertiary pyroclastic and volcanic mudflow deposits, unit 6 (Jacumba).
Workings include surface openings comprised of pits and trenches.

Reserves and resources data: Type: In-situ (estimate year = 1987): Total resources: 40,000,000 metric tons of ore. Silica: SiO2: 79.5 weight percent.
Analytical data results: Samples assay as high as 83.62% SiO2. Found in a 7 foot channel. Sample taken from the southern exposure. High content of sand, silt and broken tests.
