A former mica occurrence/mine located in the N½ sec. 18, T15S, R21E, SBM, 1.0 km (0.6 mile; 3,300 feet) WNW of Obregon and 6.2 km (3.9 miles) NE of Ogilby, in American Girl Wash, on Micatale Hill. Owned by California Western Non-Metallic. Operated continuously during the period 1929-1960 and intermittently during the period 1960-1962. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters. Product was used as a lubricant dust for surfaces of rolled roofing materials.
Mineralization is a metamorphic deposit of nearly pure sericite (muscovite) in sericite schist. The ore body is 30.48 meters thick. Pure zones that were a few hundred feet along strike are interbedded with quartzite, sericite schist, quartz-mica schist, kyanite quartzite, and kyanite-quartz-mica schist. Local rocks include schist of various types and ages, unit 9 (Cargo Muchacho Mountains) and/or Quaternary alluvium and marine deposits.
Workings include surface openings with a length of 60.96 meters and an overall depth of 9.14 meters. Five open pits were excavated with power equipment.
