A former Cu-Au-Ag occurrence/mine located in the NE¼ sec. 26, T12S, R20E, SBM, 2.0 km (1.2 miles) NW of Quartz Mountain (coordinates of record), just W of the N end of Peter Kane Mountain. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.
NOTE: USGS MRDS database file #10103012 presents geographic coordinates of 33.11285, -114.94052 that place the locality in section 23, T12S, R20E, SBM. There are no mining symbols on the topo map for that location; however, the coordinates presented in MRDS file #10212179 place it among prospect pit symbols and was the basis for location data in this Mindat file.
Mineralization is hosted in quartz monzonite. The ore body strikes N and dips 80E at a width of 3.05 meters. An oblong, NW-trending body of quartz monzonite about 1,000 feet wide and 2,600 feet long occurs here. Several narrow, elongate aplite dikes cut the quartz monzonite in the mine area. Mineralization occurs in a few short, narrow, parallel shear zones. The principal zone is 8 to 10 feet wide and can be traced for several tens of feet. Controls for ore emplacement included fractures and shear zones. Local rocks include Precambrian igneous and metamorphic rock complex.
Workings include surface and underground openings with an overall depth of 21.34 meters and comprised of one prospect hole, several small shafts 10 feet in depth. The main shaft is 70 feet deep on a fracture in monzonite that strikes N and dips 70E plus several pits and cuts.
Analytical data results: 2% to 10% Cu; $5 (period values) in Au & Ag per ton.
