A former placer Au mine located in the center N½ sec. 25, T15S, R23E, SBM, 7.0 km (4.4 miles) NE of Bard, in the SE corner of the county near the Colorado River (0.25 mile W of the Laguna Dam on the Colorado River; adjacent to and underlying the All American Canal). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters. Placer mining commenced as early as 1780.
Mineralization is a placer Au deposit hosted in Holocene gravels. Flanking ridges are underlain by Tertiary breccia. Gold is in Quaternary gravel of a canyon following a N10W-trending fault. The source may have been the Three C's deposit. There is no direct drainage to Potholes now, but could have been in the Holocene and Pleistocene times. The E side of the canyon is underlain by pre-Tertiary granite. Local rocks include Tertiary nonmarine rocks, undivided and/or Precambrian igneous and metamorphic rock complex.
Production data: Total yield produced was $2,000,000 (period values).
