A former silica deposit/mine located in the E½ sec. 2, T16S, R9E, SBM, 2.6 km (1.5 miles) SE of Carrizo Mountain (coordinates of record), at the W end of Painted Gorge. Operated during the period 1921 to 1922. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 2,000 meters. Material used in the manufacture of glass, transistors, metal alloys and chemicals.

Mineralization is a silica deposit (Mineral occurrence model information: Deposit Model: 207; USGS model code: 30e; High-grade silica deposits), hosted in sandstone. Associated rocks include Pliocene andesite. The ore body strikes N65W and dips 30-35SW at a thickness of 15.24 meters and a length of 304.8 meters. Quartz sandstone is unconformably overlain by Pliocene Imperial Formation rocks. It crops out in an area 100 to 200 feet in diameter. The unit is a white, medium-grained, poorly cemented, friable sandstone composed of sub-rounded and well-sorted quartz (80-90%), feldspar (10-20%), and minor muscovite. Local rocks include pre-Cenozoic granitic and metamorphic rocks undivided and/or Tertiary volcanic flow rocks, unit 10 (Alverson).
