A pair of former Cr mines located in secs. 13, 14, 24 & 25, T22N, R7W, and in sec. 19, T22N, R6W, MDM, 0.9 km (2,800 feet) SE of Red Mountain (coordinates of record), on National Forest land. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is a Cr deposit hosted in dunite. The ore body is irregular to linear in form, strikes N60E and dips 20NW at a thickness of 7.62 meters and a length of 167.64 meters. Controls for ore emplacement included normal faulting. A linear, north-trending peridotite body is intruded by numerous mafic dikes of dioritic composition. Alteration is local and involves the serpentinization of dunite. Associated rocks include diorite, peridotite (including var. harzburgite) and pyroxenite. Local rocks include ultramafic rocks, chiefly Mesozoic, unit 3 (Coast Ranges and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include surface openings/operations with an overall depth of 13.72 meters, length of 85.34 meters and a width of 60.96 meters.
Production data are found in: Stinson (1975).
Reserve-Resource data are found in: Stinson (1975).
Reserves and resources: Type: In-situ; Estimate year: 1975. Total resources estimated at 4,000 metric tons of ore at estimated 10 weight per cent Cr2O3.
Production statistics: Year 1918, period 1916-1918: chromite ^30 to 50% Cr2O3. Year: 1954: ^46.7% Cr2O3.
