A former Cr prospects/mine located in sec. 19, T19N, R6W, MDM, 5.8 km (3.6 miles) N of Sugarloaf Hill (1½ miles SW of the Jameson homestead on the S slope of Salt Creek) (prospect in the NW¼SE¼ on USGS map MF-279). Property consists of 3 unpatented claims. Operated by A. R. Bickford. F. M. Maesttretti and Anderson Brothers & Guy Pye worked this mine 1952-1957 (?) (U. S. Bureau of Mines data). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
The Chrome King was described in California Journal of Mines and Geology (1943) (Report 39): 39(4): 557. A letter from the Land Office, Sacramento, says Chas. Jameson homestead was in secs. 17, 18, 19, 20 and 21, T19N, R6W. So. Chrome King was in sec. 19, T19N, R6W.
Mineralization is a Cr deposit. Lenses of chromite in serpentine. Since inspection in September, 1943, an additional lens of chrome ore of good grade was reportedly to have been found. Local rocks include ultramafic rocks, chiefly Mesozoic, unit 3 (Coast Ranges and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include surface and underground openings. Surface operations involved a circular pit, 10 feet in diameter and 8 feet deep. Underground openings include a tunnel and a drift.
production information: One carload of 45% chrome ore was reportedly shipped during 1914-1918. About 2 tons of ore of shipping grade were observed on the dump.
