Köppen climate type:
A former Mn mine located in the N½ sec. 1, T18N, R7W, MDM, 2.4 km (7,900 feet) WNW of Sugarloaf Hill, on National Forest land. Owned by Brown and Moore Ranch, California (1974). Operated by Alex Brown. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
The ore body strikes N80E to N80W and dips 45 to 65S at a width of 3.05 meters. The ore is manganiferous chert with some pockets of low-grade siliceous black oxide. The ore would probably not run over 5-10% Mn. The pockets of siliceous black oxide (pyrolusite and psilomelane) might run 35% Mn. The ore is overlain by sandstone and underlain by well-bedded green chert. Local rocks include rocks of the Franciscan melange.
Workings includes surface openings comprised of an open cut 300 feet long and averaging 14 feet wide.
There is little hope that an ore body might be found.
Several carloads of ore were produced in 1943.
