A former stone (crushed/broken) deposit/quarry/pit located in the SW¼ sec. 9, T1S, R3W, MDM, 3.1 km (1.9 miles) SW of Orinda, in the Berkeley Hills, E of Berkeley and ¾ mile E of the Broadway Tunnel (Caldecott Tunnel - highway 24). Operated by A.C. Goerig. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters. Work started in 1951 on a contractual basis. Site was owner operated since 1952. Reported capacity in 1958 was to be 150 tons per day, producing rip-rap up to 10 ton individual stones, and crusher-run base and drain rock.
Local rocks include Miocene marine rocks and/or Plio-Pleistocene and Pliocene loosely consolidated deposits.
Workings include surface openings comprised of a quarry 150 feet long by 100 feet wide by 12 feet high.
