A crushed stone (specialty use shale) quarry complex located in the SE¼ sec. 10, T2N, R3W, MDM, 1.4 km (0.9 mile; 4,700 feet) SSE of Port Costa. Owned by the Port Costa Clay Products Company. Owned & operated by Porta Costa Materials, Inc. (1989). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters. Opened in 1966 (?). The commodity is shale (specialty uses).
Deposit is a thick section of marine shale and sandstone of Cretaceous age. Local rocks include Upper Cretaceous marine rocks, unit 1 (Upper Great Valley Sequence).
Workings include surface openings comprised of a quarry operation. The quarry is at the plant site. The plant is fully integrated to produce brick as well as light weight aggregate.
