A former lode Au-Pb mine located in the SW¼ sec. 17 & in the NW¼ sec. 18, T6N, R13E, MDM, about 4.5 km SW of West Point, on the divide between the Middle Fork and South Fork Mokelumne River, on private (patented) land (patented in 1873) (MSHA location: 1.75 miles SE of West Point on highway 26). Owned and operated by Troy Gold Industries Ltd., California (1981). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 or 1,000 meters (2 MRDS files).
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in granodiorite and diorite. The ore body strikes N and dips 60W at a thickness of 3.96 meters. The vein is 2 to 13 feet thick and filled with white to dark gray quartz and calcite in granodiorite, which is cut by dikes of medium-grained diorite. Abundant sulfides are present. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
Workings include underground openings comprised of a 265 foot 450 (?) inclined shaft with levels at 90, 150 & 265 feet, plus about 1,300 feet of drifts. The workings were rehabilitated in the 1930's.
Production data are found in: Clark, Wm. B. & P.A. Lydon (1962).
Production information: Nearly $2,000,000 of Au (period values) by ground sluicing near the mine. In the 1860's and 1870's ore yielded as much as $80/ton of Au (period values).
