A placer Au occurrence/drift mine located in secs. 2 & 11, T4N, R11E, MDM, 1.6 km (1.0 mile) SSE of Chili Hill (coordinates of record), about 4.6 km NW of San Andreas. Operated in 1873, the early 1900's, and during the period 1932 to 1939. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.
Mineralization is a placer Au deposit located on an unspecified paleochannel. Most of the gravel is loose, although the roof, or top, gravel, is slightly cemented. The pay gravel is about 250 feet with an average depth of 6 feet. The channel gravels consist mainly of white schist, slate and flat quartz stones. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include underground openings comprised of a 300 foot shaft, drifting and breasting. Fourteen men were employed in 1936.
In 1934 12,000 tons of gravel yielded 802 ounces of Au and 124 ounces of Ag. The Au is 875 fine.
