A former placer Au-Ag occurrence/drift mine located in the NE¼SW¼ sec. 23, T3N, R13E, MDM, about 3.6 km WNW of Vallecito, SW of the Six Mile Ranch and WNW of the Vallecito Western Mine (2 miles NE of Angels Camp). Operated prior to 1915 and during the period May to October, 1942. Operated again in 1956. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,00 meters.
Mineralization is a placer Au deposit located on the Central Hill paleochannel. Local rocks include pre-Cenozoic metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks undivided.
Workings included surface and underground openings. Drifts ran prior to 1915 through a 60 foot shaft.
W. Clark sub-leased the Val Ranch in 1942 and operated a stationary washing plant. From May 7 to October 19 of that year the yield was 69 ounces of Au and 7 ounces of Ag from 6,245 cubic yards of gravel.
