A Mn occurrence located in T4N, R14E, MDM, 1.6 km (1.0 mile) NNE of Indian Creek (town) and 3.5 km (2.2 miles) ESE of Sheep Ranch. Discovered in 1942. Owned by C. S. Pierce of Hughson, California (1974). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 5,000 meters.

NOTE: The location of this deposit is vague at best. USGS MRDS files #10029469 & 10235607 agree on the geographic coordinates, placing it as described in this Mindat file. MRDS file #10235457 provides coordinates of 120.4593, 38.14711, placing it just N of Murphys. File #10029469 does contain a note: "Original record had no geographic coordinates; these coordinates were derived from the PLSS description provided." The matter is further clouded by the fact that none of the 3 MRDS files presents a section number in the T&R values and file #10235457 gives an incomplete T&R value of T3N, R14E versus T4N, R14E. All three files agree on a common reference in bulletin 152, page 47. Interestingly, this deposit does not have detailed descriptive geologic data as is the case with virtually all such Mn deposits documented in bulletins 125 & 152.

Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada) (limestone of probable Paleozoic or Mesozoic age).
