A former placer Au mine located in the SE¼SE¼ sec. 12, T5N, R11E, MDM, 0.5 km (0.3 mile) W of Stockton Hill (summit)(coordinates of record) and 1.0 km (3,300 feet) WSW of Mokelumne Hill (town). Operated during the periods 1903-1904 and 1935-1936. MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated.
Mineralization is a placer gold deposit on the Stockton Hill or French Hill Channel. The gravel is tight and contains considerable blue clay and a number of boulders. The bedrock is hornblende schist. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
Workings include underground openings comprised of a 104 foot vertical shaft on the W rim of the channel, from the bottom of which drifts and crosscuts were driven 90 feet E, 55 feet N, and 30 feet S. This channel was said to have been extensively worked in the early days, but most of the old workings have caved.
