A placer Au occurrence located in sec. 25, T5N, R11E, MDM, about 3 km ENE of Golden Gate Hill, E of the Lombardi Ranch. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
NOTE: There are 2 USGS MRDS files pertaining to this locality. File #10259738 presents coordinates of 38°13'47"N, 120°43'50"W, placing the locality in sec. 2, T4N, R11E, MDM. Near Chili Hill in the San Andreas District. MRDS file #10162555 presents coordinates placing the locality in sec. 25, T5N, R11E, MDM, in the Mokelumne Hill District. The only difference in the names presented is either "and" or "&" in the uncommon, and probably unique, name of this site. Data from the latter file was extracted for this Mindat locality file.
Interesting, despite the name alluding to a substantial mining operation (deep shaft), neither MRDS file mentions any mining operations or mining workings or prior periods of activity. No geologic details are provided either to set the deposit into a more exact context.
