A former placer Au occurrence/drift mine located in the SE¼ sec. 21, T4N, R12E, MDM, 2.2 km (1.4 miles) about 1½ road miles SE of San Andreas, and ESE of the county airport. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.

NOTE: There are 2 USGS MRDS database files pertaining to this locality. File #10109159 presents geographic coordinates that place this locality in sec. 12, T4N, R12E, MDM, 2.2 km SSE of Quiggs Mountain and ENE of San Andreas. This same file describes the location as being 1½ road miles SE of San Andreas. MRDS file #10138758 presents geographic coordinates that place it in sec. 21, T4N, R12E, MDM, about 1½ miles SE of San Andreas. It seems that the coordinates and T&R data in file #10138758 are correct.

Mineralization is a placer Au deposit located on either the Fort Mountain paleochannel or the Central Hill paleochannel. The channel is 280 feet wide and the gravel depth is 63 feet. The channel is capped with a breccia of basaltic and andesitic pebbles. Local rocks include Paleozoic metavolcanic rocks, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada Foothills) and/or Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).

Workings include underground openings. An old 100 foot vertical shaft connects with a tunnel driven in bedrock of soft slate for 450 feet and 100 feet in blue cemented gravel. A 150 foot width of pay gravel with a depth of 7 feet was formerly mined. 450 feet of breasting was done in 1905. New operators (1936) reopened the 100 foot shaft and drifted 40 feet in the old workings. 5 men were employed.

Production was over $360,000 (period values) in 1905.
