A former placer Au occurrence/mine located in the SW¼NW¼ and NW¼SE¼ sec. 27, T3N, R13E, MDM, about 2 km N of Angels Camp, NE of Bald Hill. Operated intermittently during the period 1924 to 1933. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters. Map GP-561 shows several mines in this section. The Calaveras Central Gold Mining Co. has obtained control of the property.
Mineralization is a placer Au deposit located on the Central Hill paleochannel. Local rocks include undivided pre-Cenozoic metavolcanic rocks, unit 2 (undivided).
Workings include underground openings comprised of 2 vertical shafts at 167 feet and 115 feet deep. There are several thousand feet (more than 8,000 feet) of drifts and crosscuts, both up and down stream and in the country rock. Some of the workings were said to have been in gravel, but above bedrock and the trough of the channel were not explored. The operation was a failure due to the impractical mining methods employed.
Production information: Au valued at $25,000 (period values) was produced from the Calmo shaft.
