A former lode Au mine located in sec. 36, T5N, R11E, MDM, about 3 km E of Golden Gate Hill, S of Pine Peak, on the divide between Old Woman Gulch and Spring Gulch (3 miles NW of San Andreas). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
NOTE: This mine may be in the San Andreas District on the Mother Lode Belt. It lies about at the dividing line between that district and the Mokelumne District. The USGS MRDS files are silent on this issue.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in greenstone and slate. The ore body strikes NW and dips NE. The vein is 10 feet thick. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include underground openings with an overall depth of 9.14 meters and comprised of a 30 foot shaft and a 40 foot open cut. Other shallow shafts and open cuts exist as well.
