A former lode Au mine located in the SW¼ sec. 26 and in the NW¼ sec. 35, T6N, R12E, MDM, 0.8 km (0.5 mile) N of Rich Gulch (town) (5 miles NE of Mokelumne Hill [town]). Property was comprised of patented quartz and placer claims. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is a vein, pocket and ore shoots deposit hosted in Late Permian granodiorite and schist. The ore body strikes NNW and dips E at an average thickness of 5 to 6 feet (1.6 to 1.82 meters). Situated between the contact of granodiorite on the W and mica schist on the E. The ore shoot in the 2nd adit is 120 feet wide and pitches N. Good ore pockets are present. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada) and/or Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of 3 adits. No. 1 adit is a crosscut to the vein at 324 feet in lenght. The No. 2 & No. 3 adits follow the vein 1,563 feet and 1,100 feet, respectively. At least 1 shaft at 120 feet deep.
Total output is unknown. Older records indicate more than $300,000 (period values). $200,000 (period values) in 1872 for a 2-years run on ore taken out to a depth of 200 feet.
