A silica occurrence/mine located in the W½ sec. 7, T4N, R10E, MDM, 1.5 km (1.0 mile) E of Camanche. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters. Sandpits are located in the NE¼SW¼ of section.

Mineralization is a clayey sand of the Eocene Ione Formation. The deposit covers hundreds of acres and is 150 or more feet thick. The material contains an average of 5% clay minerals. The crude sand contains an average of 75 to 80% quartz, 15 to 20% feldspar, 3% heavy minerals and 1% pebbles.

Workings include surface openings comprised of one or more open pits, by a combination of benching and hydraulicking.

Large amounts of silica sand have been mined since 1957. The product is used in the manufacture of glass containers.
