A former placer Au occurrence/hydraulic mine located in secs. 23, 24 & 26, T3N, R10E, MDM, 2.7 km (1.7 miles) E of Jenny Lind, on the divide between Rich Gulch and North Gulch, tributaries of the Calaveras River. Owned by Smile Pacheco, Jr. Operated in the 1890's and closed in 1896. Active again during the period 1902 to 1904. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters. Map GP-561 reflects an Au mine about on the line at the SE¼ sec. 23 and the NE¼ sec. 26.
Mineralization is a placer Au deposit hosted in gravels. The gravel bed is several hundred feet wide. Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains) and/or Miocene nonmarine rocks.
Workings include surface hydraulicking operations. Extensively hydraulicked.
