A former placer Au occurrence/drift mine located in sec. 19, T3N, R14E, MDM, 0.7 km (0.4 mile) NNW of Vallecito. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is a placer Au deposit located on the Central Hill paleochannel. The channel contains well-rounded, clean, bedded gravel with no rhyolitic or andesitic pebbles. A channel (Northern) 30 to 40 feet wide is 500 feet N of the Manitou shaft, containing quartz sand and gravel, and has been explored. Both channels are capped by rhyolite. Local rocks include Tertiary pyroclastic and volcanic mudflow deposits, unit 9 (Cascade Range).
Workings include underground openings comprised of 167 foot shaft inclined 75 degrees, plus several shafts 40 to 70 feet deep on the Northern channel.
