A former placer Au occurrence/drift mine located in the SW¼ sec. 25, T5N, R11E, MDM, about 2.65 km ENE of Golden Gate Hill, at the Lombardi Ranch in Old Woman Gulch (about 4 miles S of Mokelumne Hill alongside the main highway). Operated as the Ellen Vannan during the period 1899 to 1900. Development of the Lombardi operation commenced during January, 1936. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.
Mineralization is a placer Au deposit located on the Deep Blue Lead paleochannel. The gravel is firmly packed and contains large boulders, and is about 7 feet deep. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include underground openings comprised of a 400 foot tunnel, a 27 foot vertical shaft sunk through lava to slate bedrock, and a 42 foot E-trending crosscut from the bottom of the shaft into 20 feet of gravel. The gravel was treated by a 9 foot trommel and 24 feet of sluices. 3 men were employed in the prospecting work in 1936.
