A Cr mine located in the SW¼NW¼ sec. 9, T1N, R13E (MDM), 2.0 km (1.2 miles) ESE of Mountain Top (coordinates of record), along Bean Gulch (on a NE slope about 30 feet above the bottom of Bean Gulch). Discovered and first operated in 1917. Owned by California Chrome Co. (last operator) (1918). Now owned by the federal government (U.S. Bureau Of Land Management, Sacramento Office, California, administered) (1976). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters. Pemberton erroneously places this mine in the Melones Distict-

The deposit consists of a number of small pods of massive and nearly massive chromite striking NW and dipping NE. The enclosing serpentine is highly sheared and contains considerable amounts of slip-fiber asbestos. Local rocks include ultramafic rocks, chiefly Mesozoic, unit 2 (Western Sierra Nevada and Klamath Mountains).

Workings include surface and underground openings. The underground workings have a length of 59 meters and are comprised of an inclined shaft 40 feet deep. Visible workings consist of a pit 15 to 20 feet deep, 25 feet long, and 4 to 10 feet wide. Workings caved at portal.

Production information: 282 tons of ore averaging 47% to 48% Cr2O3 were produced from 1917 to 1918.
