A former lode Au mine located in the W½ sec. 8, T4N, R12E, MDM, 1.9 km (6,200 feet) N of San Andreas, along Murray Creek (approximate center of the sec. on the N side of the creek). Operated during the period 1888 to 1895. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in the Leona Rhyolite and slate of the Calaveras Formation. The ore body strikes NW and dips NE at a thickness of 7.32 meters. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada) and/or Paleozoic metavolcanic rocks, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada Foothills).
Workings include underground openings comprised of a shaft and a 400 foot crosscut adit.
