A former Cr mine located in sec. 3, T5N, R13E, MDM, about 4.3 km SSW of Railroad Flat, along Jack Nelson Creek (on broad divide between North Fork Calaveras River and Esperanza Creek at 2,800 feet elevation). Operated during WWI. Idle since 1918. MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated.
Cnromite float dug from the soil 18 to 40 inches deep overlying highly talcose, schistose serpentine. No ore located in situ. Pieces of chromite averaged about 3 inches in diameter. Ore was high-grade Cr2O3 at 49.6%. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
Workings included surface operations and coveredan area of several thousand square feet.
Production data: 45 tons of chromite float were dug.
